WaltSin
WaltSin is a raging sermoniser and bottle-busted confessor, now shaking it off in the long burn, joined by his band of theatrical mourners, WaltSin's Gentle Confession. Raised on hymns, built on rhythm, the songs move through dark folk, obscure roots and hazy monologues, songs built from broken things: a snapped lap steel string, a hungover kick drum, the long walk back from some very drunk years.
"As the lingering corpse flower stinks sweetest after years spent rotting, so does the nectar darken with time. So can a song brew in the shadows."
Sin has filled hundreds of slots on the Australian festival circuit as frontman of indie-folk ensemble Gentle Persons Club, leading narrative-rich sets from sticky-carpeted corners to big stages, and as drummer for funk-roots outfit Fat Picnic (Splendour in the Grass, Woodford Folk Festival). He appears on percussion, drums or guitar for a few touring artists.
A global unravelling brought him back to Coffs Harbour, to build a studio for writing and production, putting out songs inspired by sleeping under a church pew as a boy, and in an alleyway as a man. This is his sobering confession.
